4 finals each for Angelina Melnikova, Melanie de Jesus dos Santos and Denisa Golgota

12 April 2019
An action-packed day at Szczecin’s Netto Arena today, as over 100 female gymnasts showed off their skills in the hope of qualifying for the all-around final or one of the apparatus finals.

Three gymnasts from three different countries made four out of the five finals: Russia’s Angelina Melnikova, Romania’s Denisa Golgota and France’s Melanie de Jesus dos Santos.

Melnikova topped the all-around standing, just a tenth ahead of 2017 European bronze medallist de Jesus dos Santos, with Great Britain’s Alice Kinsella a further 6 tenths behind. Melnikova also qualified to the vault, bars and floor final:

To me it was very important to do solid routines without any fall. I wish I would have done better on beam but overall I’m satisfied with my performance

Dos Santos didn’t perform two vaults but did qualify to the other three event finals while we’ll see Golgota again on vault, beam and floor. 2018 junior all-around European Champion Giorgia Villa competed with a fever today but still managed to put in the best performance on beam. The Italian talent is also the reigning junior European Champion on that event and beats 2017 World Champion Pauline Schaefer (GER) by a tenth. Sweden’s Jonna Adlerteg broke her personal record with a 14.666 on bars, claiming the top spot on her speciality event:

I’ve done my routine just like in training and I’m very happy about how it went!

Great Britain’s Claudia Fragapane was worthy of her nickname, the pocket rocket, when she performed an energetic floor routine, for the lead on that event. And defending all-around Champion Ellie Downie claimed first place on vault.
